Processing Information: Material in this collection was processed using AXAEM's Electronic Records Processing module, which incorporates Bagger as a way to package electronic files with technical metadata. Captured digital content was ingested into AXAEM, where ClamAV Anti-Virus software detected and cleaned any computer viruses. The cleaned files were saved on the Duke University Medical Center Archives' secure server with a regular backup schedule. Includes 24 files totaling 9.89 MB that are available for research: Accession A2020.033 (13 files totaling 8.84 MB), Accession A2020.034 (11 files totaling 1.05 MB).

Historical Note

The American Medical Women's Association (AMWA), founded in 1915, is an organization which functions at the local, national, and international level to advocate for the advancement of women in medicine and for the improvement of women's health. AMWA achieves this by providing and developing leadership, advocacy, education, expertise, mentoring, and strategic alliances. Some of the activities of the Duke chapter include a mentoring program between medical students and female physicians, a mentoring program between medical students and undergraduate pre-medical students, panel discussions with distinguished female physicians, community service events, and social events. Types of events include dinner talks with esteemed physicians; service events for Dress for Success, Girl Scouts of America, and Women in Biology; mentorship mixers with both physicians and undergraduate AMWA members, and admission to a regional conference for AMWA members.
