Photocopying, Scanning and Other Reproduction Services

On-site Photocopying:

  • One black and white self-service photocopier is available in the Reading Room for copying non-fragile materials. It can make 8 1/2 x 11 or 11 x 17 inch copies. The copies cost ten cents per page for self-service copies and fifteen cents per page for copies made by staff.
  • Copies of unpublished materials or photographs are for personal research use only, and will receive a Medical Center Archives stamp. They may not be forwarded to another party, reproduced, or deposited in another repository.
  • There are restrictions on copying official records, fragile materials, and personal papers restricted by a donor. For non-fragile items, photocopy ing is allowed with permission of a staff member.

Scanning and Other Reproduction Services

Medical Center Archives can scan photographs, negative, and positive film in-house. Photographic prints and slides usually require 48-hour notice for processing. Every effort will be made to provide good quality copies in the format desired. If the condition of the original is too poor to permit good reproduction while safely preserving the original, we will discuss alternatives with you. In some cases, high-quality reproductions can be supplied onl y with advance written permission of archives.

If you have a special creative services need (including reproducing oversize items or audiovisual materials), we can work with a Duke media facility to have items reproduced for you. Prices vary depending on the media facility. Please contact Medical Center Archives staff for current prices.
