Duke University Medical Center Archives collections consist of the administrative records of Duke University Medical Center departments and personal papers of individuals affiliated with Duke University Medical Center, the Duke University Health System, School of Medicine (including the Allied Health Educational Programs, and Area Health Education Center Program), and the School of Nursing. Personal paper holdings include materials of alumni, faculty, and administrative staff. more.... Historical Images ResourcesFoundations of Excellence: An Archival Image Collection Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Duke Medicine, funded in part by The Josiah Charles Trent Memorial Foundation, Inc., presents a selection of over 600 digitized photographs and publications. These images document the history of the Duke Medicine's academic, clinical, and research activities from 1927 through 1950. The project is part of a larger year-long celebration of the 75th anniversary of Duke Medicine. Historical Images in Medicine. The Medical Center Library's Historical Images in Medicine (HIM) collections encompass over 3,000 photographs, illustrations, engravings, and bookplates from the history of the health and life sciences. The PA History Digital Collection contains over 3,000 images associated with the history of the physician assistant profession. These items were selected from materials contained in the DUMC Archival and PA History Society's special collections. The database was originally created with grant funding from the State Library of North Carolina, Exploring Cultural Heritage Online Digitization Grants and through additional funding from the Josiah Charles Trent Memorial Foundation, Inc., which allowed for further database augmentation. In 2007, the American Academy of Physician Assistants provided funding to migrate the database into its current form in MeDSpace. Website Contents

Students, faculty and staff members, alumni, and the general public all have access to the photographs, papers, oral histories, and memorabilia documenting the history of Duke Medicine. Materials are accessible in the Medical Center Archives reading room, located at 1408-A Christian Avenue, on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is strongly recommended that you contact the Archives at least 24 hours before your visit so that the staff can have materials ready for you when you arrive.
